we are in kyiv, ukraine!
we flew from toronto to amsterdam yesterday. [it seems more like one whole day of travel. i really have no sense of time what so ever]. janet, becca and i boarded the early flight to kyiv, ukraine from amsterdam a few hours early. we waited at the airport for the rest of the team for about 6 hours. we slept on the floor while listening to crazy ukrainian announcements and suitcases and baggage being wrapped in plastic with tape [the noise was horrible - especially if your trying to sleep]. i guess they want their luggage not damaged at all so they wrap it up in plastic.
about an hour ago we got a drive from the airport after everyone arrived, and drove to two hotels. the first one was booked up and this one we are actually staying in. this hostel apparently was nicer anyways. we have wireless internet, hence this email, cozy beds and a romantic balcony with old rusted brass bars around the balcony with plants crawling on it. pictures will definately come soon!
tomorrow we are headed to the airport to go to albania. it will be another long day of travel. we will be leaving the hostel at 12 30 pm and head down to the airport.
things i have observed today: - the men here are either small, or just bulky men.
- the women here are very pretty and most of them you see are wearing high, high heals
- the driving here is bascially whatever you please as your driving. there are set speed limits but people drive and park on the sidewalks and swirve on the road according to where they are going and how badly they need to get here.
i am currently now sitting on the balcony waiting for dinner. we are having sandwiches from the grocery store and tea. see, this is what i love about travelling. this is what i long for about travelling. finding these small nooks of a cozy spot and basking in it. having little money but surviving on so much more. even on the plane, i know that this whole thing, this whole travelling experience may be out of where im comfortable most, but you find little things to look forward to. those are the best moments. it gives you hope. and it satisfies. but i cannot forget God in this all.
i love you all. this is going to such an amazing time. i can't wait to come back and spend a month in the ukraine. hostels are wicked!
